There's a lot going on these days: on March 7th Fight the Big Bull will be releasing our debut EP to all the fanfare we can muster. For this wonderful event, not for future release but for one night only, I am currently preparing the Weezer "Blue" album for us to cover in its entirety.
Also, The Great White Jenkins continues to play here and there, gearing up for a new album this summer and preparing for an extended tour in the fall.
I am excited to be doing some horn arrangements for some wonderful friends and fellow musicians. Josh Small and I head to the studio sometime in March and I'm also lending a hand to jay seeger in the coming weeks as well.
Patchwork Collective pulled a little rabbit from its hat again - his name is Jandek and he will perform on March 11
I am listening to Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra and recently ordered a fabulous record by Carla Bley entitled "Escalator over the Hill." |

So many things to be excited about!!! Fight the Big Bull, an 8 piece gospel choir/dance band full of horns and love, is performing bi-weekly at Cous Cous in downtown Richmond. I couldnt be more excited about these shows as it provides the band a wonderful performance space, an attentive crowd, as well as free PBR and Mediterranean snacks. Please dont miss it, the big beats, sad songs and sexy sing alongs just arent the same without you. Fight the Big Bull opens its little arms and welcomes you into our home every other wednesday until Christmas.
I am curating monthly shows at Ipanema that began this sunday night with Josh Small and the Machetes as well as the newest Brian Jones Ensemble. In the future look forward to a Randy Newman tribute evening as well as a few sets from the Great White Jenkins.
Patchwork Collective is back on its feet bringing the legendary Tim Berne to town on November 30th and organizing our next Turntable Sessions for December. We have all manner of secret surprises for the 804 come springtime but dont be too forward thinking to miss out on our lovely lovely guests this fall.
Last but not least the Great White Jenkins has been holed up preparing new material to sing for all our friends. We will be skulking around the state soon enough so do your best to find us. We are looking forward to, perhaps, a free jazz Christmas EP as well as a an upcoming album this summer, and looking forward to next fall a US tour. |

First of all, welcome to my new website, I have a lot going on that im pretty excited about and hopefully this will be a really nice way to organize everything and get it out there for people to check out.
I just recorded an EP with Fight the Big Bull on Sunday and am looking forward to its release sometime this fall. A guy over at Forest is cooking up a brand new website for us as well and I'm excited about an active fall/winter for the band.
In mid August I head out on the road for a a little over a week with The Great White Jenkins. This is our first real tour of any kind and it should be a pretty good time. All of the other groups have something or other in the works: Matt White and the Machetes recorded for a bit earlier this summer, Fight the Bull has spent some time rehearsing and is looking to sneak back into the Richmond scene in the next few months, the Black Orchestra might be making a comeback this fall/winter, the Patchworkestra had a glorious debut at Patchworks first birthday bash and is hungry for more, and Sarah Carter and I even spent a wonderful evening together entertaining some wedding folks with our tunes.
Anyhow, ill keep this up to date with the latest happenings ever so often so please check back and see whats going on. Thanks. |
